So when I go to GoodReads - BEWARE OF THIS SITE! YOU WILL GET MAD AT OTHER PEOPLE'S OPINIONS. Or the comments people leave. Just like on Youtube. Sometimes they are just horrible.
GoodReads is another site I found like last year or so. I go to the 1 star reviews because they tell what they did not like about. Sometimes in great detail. As for the 4 or 5 stars the just give the same generic response. Like "She kicks but. She is an assassin. She gets the guy. The guy is so cool!" They are sugar coating what they liked about it. So basically they are the ones who will say "The book is great! You have to read it! The character kicks butt!" They keep praising it but for some people the book is not their cup of tea. They don't give you reasons to like, they just tell you to read it. So if you want to get a real opinion of the what the books contains, read the 1 or 2 star reviews. Though they can be harsh sometimes. The 3 stars, sometimes 2 or 4, give honest reviews too. Like why it did deserve these stars, what the pros/cons are for them.
This made me realize that reviews are a good thing because you can find others that either share your opinion or can tell you certain things that flew under your radar or tell you why a certain scene was so wrong. Even themes that you missed. Certain foreshadowing that escaped your attention. I know for a fact the the mind I have now is a lot more open then when I was younger. Like a lot of things clicked after a certain age. Back then my mind was not as knowledgeable as I wanted it to be. Basically I can figure things out by forming my own opinion of what I found out was right or wrong instead of just going with the flow.
I've also notice that a lot of people can articulate more than me. And I like that. They can better write out their thoughts and it's like I agree. You took the words right out of my mouth. So it's thanks to TV Tropes and people's reviews that I better understand what it was that I found so right or wrong in a book I just read. Because something I was reading got to me, like the character saying or doing something or not doing anything at all! The thing is I want to know what is wrong with it. Or what was not satisfying about reading it.
